Employment and Business Litigation

John is a trial attorney. He loves being in the courtroom. He has represented clients in more than 60 jury and bench trials and has handled countless other arbitrations and hearings. His practice now focuses on defending employers in civil rights and employment litigation and representing clients in non-competition matters.

John’s litigation skills have been nationally recognized by Super Lawyers (Employment Litigation, 2013 – present) and by The Best Lawyers in America (Litigation – Labor and Employment, 2018 – present). He enjoys helping other lawyers develop their courtroom skills by serving as an adjunct faculty member for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy (NITA).

John also is Of Counsel with BerlikLaw LLC, a northern Virginia-based litigation firm handling defamation, breach of contract, and other business disputes.

Advice and Counsel

John has extensive experience counseling employers on day-to-day labor and employment issues, such as terminations, requests for accommodations and leaves of absence, reductions in force, unfair labor practices, and wage and hour matters. While in the Air Force, John acted as de facto in-house employment counsel by advising and representing Air Force management in all aspects of labor and employment law in relation to its civilian workforce. John believes that good, proactive legal advice avoids costly litigation, which is always in the best interest of clients.
